Capital Improvements Levy

CLARKSTON SCHOOL DISTRICT - CAPITAL IMPROVEMENTS LEVY

Capital Improvements Levy Info Card

The Clarkston School District Capital Improvements Levy for safety, security, technology, and equipment (science and vocational) will pay for district-wide curricular and instructional enhancements. This two-year 2020-2022 Capital Improvements Levy is in addition to the district's four-year 2018-2022 School Programs and Operations Levy. The estimated $0.50 Capital Improvements Levy is per $1,000 of assessed property value.

Capital improvements (or capital projects levies) are a little different than a School Programs and Operations Levy and/or Bond which are designed to assist schools in raising revenue. Capital improvements levies typically provide funding for items that require a larger sum to acquire, improve, or maintain a school building or a technology solution.

The following is a cost breakdown of what the district is asking for:
Safety and Security: $400,000
Technology: $200,000
Science equipment: $300,000
Vocational equipment: $260,000
Future and inflationary costs: $160,000
Total for 2-year levy: $1,320,000

The future and inflationary costs line item helps us prepare in two ways: because purchasing for some of these items is over two years from now and we would like to be able to account for these unforeseen costs and secondly, in the future, there may be items in the areas of safety, security, technology, and science and vocational equipment that are not available today that we would like to consider for our students.

You may review the Capital Improvements Levy Flyer or call District Office at 509-769-6338 for more information.
