School Closures & Delays
During inclement weather conditions, the decision process whether to close or delay school is as follows:
- Transportation supervisor drives all routes to assess road conditions
- Transportation supervisor contacts the Superintendent and advises him of road conditions
- Superintendent confers with other local superintendents
- Clarkston Superintendent makes final decision to keep school open, closed, implement a two-hour delay or early release
Clarkston School District also utilizes the media notification system Flash Alert Newswire to communicate its school closure/delay information with local TV, radio, and news stations as needed. As soon as a decision has been made to delay or close school, this information is posted to the Flash Alert website. Parents are encouraged to check this website in the mornings for accurate and reliable information direct from the District. A "Flash NewsWire” link can be found on our district home page under the “Quick Links” menu to the right.
There’s an App for that!
Did you know that you can download a FREE app for your smart phone (both Android and iPhones) to receive emergency notifications from Clarkston School District on your phone? The FlashAlert Messenger app allows the public to register up to three email and/or cell phone text addresses and receive Clarkston's information at the same time it is sent to the news media. When you subscribe to receive messages from Clarkston, a test message is triggered to make sure you've entered your email and/or cell phone addresses correctly and that messages will get past spam filters. Each summer, an opt-in message is sent to all registered addresses to keep the database current. You must register and subscribe to receive messages from the district before you will be able to use the phone app. Again, this app is free and means you don't have to wait for a closure or delay message to be reported on the radio or TV. Contact Communications Director, Molly Curtiss, with any questions regarding this service.
