The Clarkston School District, in fulfillment of a new state law (Senate Bill 5395), will begin sexual health education this spring.  A parent night was held on March 23, and the board approved a locally developed curriculum at the most recent meeting on April 11. The curriculum will be taught in 6th and 9th grade this year.  Lessons for 6th grade will be 60 minutes each day, and lessons for 9th grade will be 80 minutes each day. The dates of the instruction are listed below by building.

Clarkston High School (9th Grade Only): May 17, May 19, May 24, May 26

Heights Elementary (6th Grade Only): Skelton-May 18, May 24, May 26; Lower-May 31, June 1, June 2

Highland Elementary (6th Grade Only): May 18, May 25, May 31

Grantham Elementary (6th Grade Only): May 17, May 19, May 25

Parkway Elementary (6th Grade Only): May 18, May 25, May 31

If you would like to opt your child out of the sexual health education, please contact your child’s school for an opt-out form that will be returned to the school.  Children who are opted out will be provided with alternative education choices not related to sexual health during the time of instruction.  A copy of the curriculum can be found in the “community” or “parents” tab on the district website or at https://www.csdk12.org/page/sexual-health-curriculum
